The Innovative Structural Engineering Research Spotlight webinar organized by the SEI Illinois Professional Chapter and our SEI Graduate Student Chapter will feature three of our Ph.D. students’ research. Find more information about the event in the attached flyer. The webinar is happening on Thursday, March 25, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. CT.

The webinar is completely free for students, and only $15 for professionals. Note that a portion of the revenue for this event will go towards sponsoring student registrations to attend the 2021 Structures Virtual to be held June 2nd to 4th.

Carol J. Drucker, SE, PE, P.Eng, is a Principal of the firm Drucker Zajdel Structural Engineers in Chicago, IL. She has worked extensively on the structural design of many projects throughout the country and is recognized as an industry leader. She received her Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and her Masters Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. She has authored articles on connection design and currently serves on AISC’s TC-6, TC-2, and Specification Committee.

FM Global’s research group, based in Norwood, MA, is seeking an intern for 2021 to study in the area of Structures and Natural Hazards research.

Our objective is to increase technical knowledge and to provide loss prevention solutions to FM Global and its clients. Theis intern will work as part of research projects under the supervision of senior staff within the Structures and Natural Hazards Area of FM Global’s Research group. This internship offers the student an opportunity to assist with and perform scientific and engineering projects, with a focus on seismic design information and seismic loss.

Applicants must:
• Be enrolled in a participating college or university and provide a current transcript.
• Be a graduate-level student and be in academic good-standing for graduation.

The study period will be determined by mutual agreement.

Call for Abstracts – SEI Research Spotlight Webinar – Deadline Feb 24

SEGSO is organizing a research webinar with the SEI Illinois Professional Chapter. This webinar will feature the research of three students in the Structural Engineering field from Universities in Illinois. The webinar is titled “Innovative Structural Engineering Research Spotlight.” The students will present their research to a broad audience, including structural engineering professionals, and you can be one of them!

APT-PETC 2021 Masonry Arch: Student Design-Build Competition

The competition is structured in 3 phases and the finals will be held at the annual conference from October 27-November 2, 2021 in Washington, DC. This is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on design experience in the growing preservation field as well as networking with industry leaders throughout the design process and at the annual international conference.
