AmeriMech Symposium on Mechanics for Advanced Manufacturing

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign | October 9-11, 2026 | Urbana, IL

Symposium Overview

Advanced manufacturing technologies—such as additive manufacturing, 4D printing, composites processing, metal forming, and hybrid manufacturing—are driving a new era of industrial innovation. These processes involve intricate multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena—thermal, mechanical, and microstructural—that demand a deep understanding of the associated fundamental mechanics to enable effective modeling, design, control, and optimization. This workshop aims to bring together researchers working at the intersection of mechanics, design, materials science, and manufacturing to discuss emerging challenges, computational innovations, and experimental advances that are shaping the future of advanced manufacturing.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Multi-scale and multi-physics process modeling
Microstructure evolution, phase transformation, and defect formation
Data-driven modeling and integration for material and process design
Integrative design optimization and manufacturing approaches for engineering structures and materials
Design, simulation, and advanced manufacturing of stimuli-responsive smart materials
In-situ process monitoring and characterization
Model calibration, validation, and verification
Topology optimization for manufacturing applications
Mechanics of metamaterials and architected materials
Uncertainty quantification in manufacturing processes and material property prediction
